What are NiteNavs?
In
theory a 'NiteNav' is a solo orienteering type navigational
event (taking place at night of course) which tests the fitness and
navigational skills of competitors. However the reality is somewhat
different, these events rely on a lot of luck so if you can't navigate
and are totally unfit you will probably win.
Guidelines (Summary)
For Course Planners: -
-
The Summer Series based on
a 'Score' event with a maximum time of 2 hours.
-
There will be a penalty of 5
points deduction per minute for anyone arriving after the 2 hour
time limit.
-
The course is a 'Treasure Hunt' style
with a
sheet of clues accompanying the marked map.
-
Answers are written on the clue sheet and marked at the end by the
organiser.
-
The points value of the clues are weighted according to distance and
difficulty, to be decided by the organiser.
-
The organiser should mark his/her mobile phone number on the clue
sheet.
-
Having fun is an essential requirement!
For Participants: -
-
Positions are based on the
highest total points, after penalties, then the quickest time
taken.
-
Participants take part at their
own risk.
-
Participants
MUST carry
as a
minimum waterproof top and leggings, relevant map,
compass, whistle & emergency food.
-
Carrying a mobile phone is
recommended
preferably with the organiser's number stored in it.
-
The Race Organiser has the final
say as to who can take part e.g. in the case of a novice or someone
unfamiliar to the organiser requesting a start, the organiser shall
use discretion as to whether or not to allow that person to take
part. The Race Organiser may decide that the person may start but
must be accompanied at ALL times while out on the course. Failure to
comply with this request may result in disqualification & that
person may be banned from entering future events.
