To infinity and beyond! A run around the bridges on the Tees and a chance for those who'd never experienced the Sun Inn before to taste the BEST pint of Bass in the world! A definite change to the normal moorland/forest venues we use so I wasn't sure how many would fancy it. However, 14 hardy souls turned up to give it a go, which I was very pleased with. As you all know these events take some organising and it makes it all worth while when a decent number turn up and you get the positive comments I received afterwards. These were much appreciated, especially after I had two of the controls the wrong way round. But you lot are a tenacious bunch and figured it out anyway. Apologies to all for that gaff especially young Tom who otherwise probably would have won it. Thanks to John (Mr Dillon!) Wood for helping me on the night. -  Bref

First Gents, thanks for such a good turnout in a location a bit farther to travel (Hob Hole). I usually try to find places you'd not seen, but it would appear most of you had beaten me to most of the spots. We were blessed with fair weather, allbeit unseasonably cold. I'd tried to include a wide mix of terrain and it obviously suited the offroaders. Of the early finishers it looked like Mark had triumphed, beating Trev by a minute in 1 hr 11mins, but his fist pumping celebrations proved to be a bit premature, with Tom's long legs and pace carrying him around in just under the hour, beating his dad and Dave by a few minutes. The inevitable controversy was my use of the CROW acronym which had Bill looking for dead birds and Bref mumbling. Apologies for the confusion, but it gave you all something to think and talk about at the post mortem over the free chips. Everyone seemed to enjoy the course and getting out into an area we don't visit too often, I thoroughly enjoyed planning the event and there's loads more scope to the east of the road - Bob.

We saw a really good turnout of 17 runners and walkers. The course had been planned with this in mind so that there was a long outer loop and a shorter inner loop, to cater for walkers, although it looks like most managed the outer loop in order to bag the larger control points. The evening started a bit strangely as we had to hurriedly change the start point from the main car park to the lay-by at the north end of Newton due to 24 hour parking charges that now apply! The weather was overcast and cool at first with a bit of mizzle at times but it cleared to leave a lovely sunny and warm evening. There were huge differences in route choice as the course had been set out with plenty of options. Some chose to go out clockwise through the farms and dismantled railway to get the long run out of the way whilst others chose to get the climbing out of the way by 'bagging' Roseberry Topping at the beginning. As I had suspected no one managed to visit all of the controls but a few came close with David Allison only missing one. Given that he had 6 minutes to spare and with a slight alteration to his route choice perhaps he might have succeeded in getting all of them. Ian Hodgson, not having brought a watch, finished with over 10 minutes to spare and only missed two controls so perhaps with a watch who knows...... Tom only missed two controls but they were only low scorers so he managed beat Dad, Ian, and was only 10 points behind the winner David Allison. A real surprise was how well the 'walkers' did i.e. Bref, Bob, Glyn and Mick Garratt. I suspect there was a fair bit of jogging involved here....... Bill & Steve. Next NiteNav - 9th July, venue TBC.

Thanks everyone for turning up and for the positive feedback. I was concerned that I hadn’t spent much time looking round the area and the course was going to be a bit short. I hadn’t produced the map or controls until Tuesday lunchtime and added a few controls after looking at google maps and putting my little man on the road to see what extra I could put in, it also made it very hard to get a decent circuit.
There are some lovely paths round this area and pretty well marked even though they are a bit overgrown in places and not very well used. The parking worked out alright in the end but it’s a good job we got there early as there were a group of mountain bikers meeting up at the same point. The course was planned to get everyone to an area they weren’t familiar with and to see a part of Bilsdale they probably haven’t seen from a different perspective.
Everyone had a good run and I was quite surprised to hear Bob and Bref had completed the lot as well as Dave Allison, Vince and his mate John. Steve and Glynn both had a good run together and I’ve never seen Glynn with a sweat on before. Vince and John even had time to call in on a work colleague for a drink.
Bob and Bref were out more than the two hours, as were Vince and John so will have penalties for that, which means Dave Allison won again, Ian.

On a warm sultry summers night, 14 intrepid explorers set off from Pinchinthorpe for the latest summer night nav, unfortunately Wai came back early suffering from hay fever leaving 13 brave souls to contend with heat, humidity, flies and the posh people doing a professionally organised event called “run challenge” whereas our's is the equivalent of a Blue peter sticky back plastic affair. Anyway the way I set up the course, with 28 controls, I didn’t  think anybody would get them all, DOH! Dave, Tom, and Ian did, Dave and Tom well within the time of 2 hours and Ian just outside of which he blamed poor Joss, his faithful pooch. Probably not the first time either. What's that smell...........Joss........
Thanks to everyone who turned up and well done to all, regards, Mark Edwards.
See you all on 20th August at Potto for Dave Allison's NiteNav.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves in an area that has a lot more footpaths and route choices that most people realised. In the last month some nettles had grown around a few stiles (contrary to my notes) and some of the wheat had been harvested, which made the footpaths between no.7 and 8 less clear on the ground.
Many got to all the controls although a few were over time and had penalties applied. There were a few "alternate" route choices taken that were not strictly rights of way, but I guess I shouldn't be suprised.
Well done Hodgson Senior for getting around in an impressive 1 hr 21 mins, and a special mention for John who was out and about and bagged all the Potto circle controls upon his return to competitive action after replacement knee surgery, David.
Congratulations go to the series winner David Allison, for the third year in a row, with Ian and Tom H tying for second place . Thanks to everyone who made the effort to compete, especially in some new, uncharted areas and special thanks to Bref, Bob, Steve, Ian, Mark and David for committing their valuable time and effort to organising some great events - thanks guys, Bill P.

The last NiteNav of this summer was the twilight event and was ran as a 'Norwegian Style' event with only the first control grid reference supplied. The NiteNav was from Clay Bank car park and covered the moorland area and woods on the east side, around the Cleveland Way. It was a warm(ish) night but the mist had been down most of the day and so visibility wasn't perfect and the midges were out in force, especially at the car park! Trevor and Rob, being the first runners off, returned with battle scarred legs, due to brambles, from accessing CP6 down the stream as this was the most direct route. Mark E and Tommy didn't have this trouble as the approach had been beaten down. Bref and Ken found CP6 using the main track and said that it was actually quicker. Martyn has finally got his head round the concept of Norwegian Style (See last year's autumn Twilight NiteNav). There were 16 runners and walkers and all but Ian and John W found all controls as Ian was walking due to an ankle injury accompanied by John who is recovering from a recent knee replacement. When Trevor returned he was disappointed not quite making it under the hour and thought he'd possibly set a winning time until young Tom H sprinted home in a blistering 49 minutes, over 10 minutes quicker, puting Trevor in runner-up spot. Thanks to all who turned up and especially for all the positive comments. The winter series starts in October, the first one being on Tuesday 29th, from Gribdale courtesy of Steve and Bill. See you there. (P.S. Organisers required for the winter series)
