Hi folks, thanks from me and Bref for a good turnout at St
Hildas.
Bref did all the hard work, setting a course to challenge
the best together with a shorter alternative for the
walkers.
Everyone enjoyed the evening despite a very heavy shower of
rain just as folks were setting off. I challenged Bref about
Tuesdays and rain, and he assured me it was probably just
low cloud.
Quickest back was Dave Allison, followed by Ian Hodgson,
Vince Connolly then Mark.
The only casualty was Len Small who's kit choice proved
questionable and he arrived back soaked to the skin. The
"low cloud" cleared later into a lovely evening, Thanks Bob. |

I chose Gribdale again but tried a different area to where I
normally plan the route. It was great to see and hear about
all the different routes people took and paths some hadn’t
been on before. Control No7 seemed to be the one most had
trouble with (wall end/tree). I’ve used it before and in the
past it was visible from the track above but, over the years
it’s become a bit overgrown so not as clear but it’s still
good one to have in. Dave A was clear winner but, the next 4
in , Graeme and Hodgy just 25 seconds between them then
Vince and Wai just 20 seconds between them 🤷♂️. 18 runners
started out so a great turnout. Good job I printed out a
couple of extra maps! Thanks all for coming out, Mark. |

We were pleased to see that ten competitors were prepared to
travel to a little used area for NiteNavs, which was
suggested by Caroline. The controls were inspired by a walk
I did through the area some weeks previously with Len & Ken.
Dave A was first back, a regular occurrence these days,
everyone else was in excess of an hour. From the vantage
point at the start, with the help of my new binoculars, we
were able to follow some of the runners visiting CP 4 and
witnessed one overshoot a wee bit?
I then relocated up the road, whilst Caroline manned the
finish, and was able to observe several of the runners
navigating their way to CP 7 and CP 8. Again witnessing
some interesting tactics. Suffice to say that a straight
line doesn’t necessarily make for a good decision. The
walkers route turned out to be spot on my estimate and Steve
and Alan ran off with the first prize! Bill, didn’t exercise
his new V70 status and did all 8 CP’s so no one actually did
the plodders option.
In short, everyone visited all 8 CP’s apart from Steve and
Alan who visited 6 and claimed their V70 freebie making a
total of 7.
The weather behaved, thanks Bref, and there was a lot of
positive feedback. The information posts used for some of
the CP’s generated a wee bit of discussion as did the
celebrity guest in the form of an owlet, which Bill was able
to capture on camera.
Once again a big thank you to Caroline for her support and
everyone who participated, Dave T and Caroline. |

Another big turn out for the latest night nav. The weather
was as I order, thank you weather gods. Thanks for all the
positive feedback really appreciated. I was slightly
bothered about Vince’s ability to get around the course when
he struggled to get out of my garden, then ended up going
though my neighbours garden, getting attacked by stinging
nettles trying to escape. I think checkpoint 3 had some
magical powers as a few visited it more than once. Well done
Dave A for the faster time, didn’t quite break the hour, 13
seconds over, must try harder. I think a special well done
should go to Bref for completing the full course, coming
back from his long illness.
Thanks again all. Cheers, Trevor. |

Our thanks goes to the seventeen walkers/runners who turned
out on a fine Tuesday evening. The route seemed to go down
well despite the bracken being above head height and
obscuring the paths in places. The route was a figure of
eight with a five mile loop and a two mile loop with
checkpoint seven (the end of the five mile loop/start of the
two mile loop) being very near the start/finish. Two runners
decided to do the short loop first in case they got to the
end of the long loop and then thought “sod it” and not
bother with the short loop. The farmer at Plum Tree House
was surprised when about six walkers/runners arrived at
about the same time. They should all have been at checkpoint
four at nearby Northgate farm! A herd of young cattle made
it interesting for some between checkpoint two and three.
Thanks again to all who came out on the night, Alan & Terry. |

Sixteen people turned up in Danby on a beautiful sunny
evening for a run / walk on the moors. I deliberately picked
an area that was very runnable/walkable and not overtaken by
the bracken and heather and with route choice options.
Vince (after returning from altitude training in The Alps)
was the fastest on the night 9 minutes ahead of Trevor who
got home just 12 seconds before Mark.
Thanks for all the positive feedback that everyone enjoyed
themselves. |
