'Golden Pearl' Reston Scar Fell Race
19th February 2012 by Caroline Pollard
'TRIO OF SMELLY HELLY’S'
FIRST EVENT IN THE LAKES FOR
2012
SUNDAY 18TH FEB
‘Golden Pearl’ RESTON SCAR
11.25km /
600M / 2 laps

On this cold, bright, sunny
morning Trevor, Mark and myself went off to Staveley for this race.
There was no entry fee, just a donation to ‘First Responders’. Also free
soup and roll in the Hawkshead Brewery!

The race started at 12 noon,
and soon found that we were overdressed (me especially). We just about
got to the top of Reston Scar on the first lap together, and then it was
down to the road to start the second lap, where I got left behind.
Trevor led all the way round and into the finish straight along the
footpath by the river, but Mark used his 5km park run speed to sprint
through to the finishing banner. I was 5 minutes behind, BUT did get the
LV50 prize of 3 bottles of Hawkshead beer, which was shared out, but not
drunk, on the way home. I was saving mine to top up with lemonade.
"Durr, where are we Mark? This car park's
very technical, Trev, Where's the gate?"

Other
Smelly’s are invited on any subsequent trips – runner, walker,
cameraperson, etc etc.
