What are NiteNavs?
In
theory a 'NiteNav' is a solo orienteering type navigational
event (taking place at night of course) which tests the fitness and
navigational skills of competitors. However the reality is somewhat
different, these events rely on a lot of luck so if you can't navigate
and are totally unfit you will probably win.
Guidelines
For Course Planners: -
-
Course length should be based on
a winning time of 1 hour.
-
Ideally there should be 5
controls in total.
-
There should be a 2 hour time limit, after which penalties will be
incurred up to 10 minutes over.
Anyone arriving back after the 10
minute cut-off will be disqualified unless there is a valid reason,
at the
organiser's discretion
-
Controls should
always be
placed on marked features on the map.
-
It is advisable that the organiser marks his mobile phone number on
the map.
For Participants: -
-
In the event of a control being
stolen or placed incorrectly to the map position it will not count
unless found by at least one person. Then it becomes active.
-
Positions are based on number of
controls found being of highest priority then the quickest time
taken.
-
Participants take part at their
own risk.
-
Participants
MUST carry a
minimum of a torch, waterproof top and leggings, relevant map,
compass & whistle.
-
Carrying a mobile phone is
recommended with the organiser's phone number written on the map (or
preferably stored in the phone).
-
The Race Organiser has the final
say as to who can take part e.g. in the case of a novice or someone
unfamiliar to the organiser requesting a start, the organiser shall
use discretion as to whether or not to allow that person to take
part. The Race Organiser may decide that the person may start but
must be accompanied at ALL times while out on the course. Failure to
comply with this request may result in disqualification & that
person may be banned from entering future events.
