The night started off a little drizzly but soon cleared into
a warm(ish), but quite dark, evening. When I started to
compile the course, I went back through some of my old
previous NiteNavs and thought that I would resurrect a few
controls giving some choices of route for both the runners
and walkers and I was right as most went anticlockwise with
some choosing to go round in numerical order but one or two
went 1, the 3 then 2 which actually shortened the distance.
The route was also devised so that there were two distinct
areas - Roseberry/Hanginstone and the Hutton Woods area.
Controls 1,2 & 3 were in the first area and 4 - 7 were in
the Hutton Woods area allowing the walkers to try to
complete, mostly, the Hutton Woods area.
We had quite a decent turnout with 10 runners and walkers,
even though a few of the regulars were unable to make it. I
felt sorry for Dave T who seemed to struggle in the
Hangingstone and Little Roseberry areas and wasn't quite
where he'd thought he was and so giving up on a couple of
controls in order to get the rest. Poor Mick P and Steve
really struggled to find there way round the Bold Venture
Gill area getting stuck behind barbed wire fencing and
trying to find a way out. They were absolutely shattered
having been out over three hours. Good job it wasn't
freezing cold but they did return safely.
Well done to Ian Hodgson who won finishing over 25 minutes
ahead of 2nd place Vince Connolly. Third place was extremely
closely fought with Wai just pipping Mark by 20 seconds.
Nearly everyone enjoyed the course so it's thanks to all who
turned up and took part.
The Next NiteNav is on November 17th from Gribdale and
organised by Mark Edwards. Hope to see you there, Bill. |
