Rumour has
it that each year in early December, Santa can be seen in Guisborough
woods, apparently exercising to get fit for the BIG day! So, with great
determination, a very large group of children, accompanied by parents
and grandparents, set off from Pinchinthorpe car park on a wet afternoon
on Sunday, 11th December, to seek out Father Christmas in the woods and
hopefully get an early pressie!
The route
chosen to find Santa was pushchair friendly and had previously proved
successful. So anticipation was high among the children and it wasn't
long before the first sighting of Santa was made.
The children
looked up the hillside in awe, as Santa went through his training
regime. On seeing the children, Santa waved his arms in a circular
motion and the children waved furiously back. Santa then appeared to hop
up and down on one leg for a while doing the Irish Jig as he disappeared
out of sight over the hill. Perhaps he had a stone in his shoe?
Encouraged
by their first sighting, the children marched on to a bend in the track
where to their delight Santa was seen jogging only yards away. This
proved too tempting for some of the children who ran after Santa into
the woodland. Santa seemed somewhat startled by this and beat a hasty
retreat up the hill and out of sight, to the disappointment of the
pursuing children. That was a close one!
Try as hard
as they could the children just couldn't keep up with Santa, who it has
to be said, looked to have shed quite a few pounds compared to his
popular image!
So
eventually the children arrived back at Pinchinthorpe, where to their
delight they found Santa sat in his Grotto with a sack full of treats,
one for every child!
Everyone
agreed, this was a most enjoyable Christmas walk!
Well done to
Santa and his helpers!
